Hirst kunst stelt vragen over onsterfelijkheid en het concept van leven en dood.

Hirst verkreeg wereldwijde bekendheid door zijn kunstwerken met dieren die in een aquarium zijn gepreserveerd in formaldehyde zoals de installatie met de haai (1991) “The Physical Impossibility Of Death In The Mind Of Someone Living”. De haai ziet er levensecht uit omdat het gewoon een echte haai is die lijkt te drijven in water..

Damien Hirst’s werk is een extreme en buitensporige vorm van kunst in deze eeuw. Decadent naar klassieke schoonheid, van het inwendige naar het conceptuele. Damien Hirst’s werk is altijd het vieren van het leven en het grijpt terug naar het dringende in onze tijd: de dood, verval en ziekte. Dit gaat vaak samen met het strakke formele van de glazen vitrine of de witte kubus.

Metaforen van geneesmiddelenleer en artsenkennis, mediapropaganda en het vervreemden van de natuur komen terug in de vorm en inhoud van zijn werk. Met invloeden van Francis Bacon tot Engelse punk tot de pop-art van de jaren zestig. De media associeert zijn werk met de dood maar hij maakt net zo goed werk met betrekking op liefde en met poëtische benadering.

Ondanks dat zijn installaties voor miljoenen verkocht worden maakt Hirst oplages die u bij AbrahamArt kunt bekijken of een proefplaatsing bij u thuis voor kunt aanvragen. De kunstwerken van Damien Hirst zijn altijd spraakmakend en nog immer populair.
