Marco Grassi (Grama) is a painter of Italian origin, born in 1966 and currently living and working in Lugano, Switzerland. Marco creates remarkable portraits known for their realism, always enriched with a distinctive touch and a hint of surrealism. He places great importance on the precision with which he approaches the details of his non-traditional portraits.
Since the beginning of his career, Marco Grassi has developed a highly personal style, celebrating the identity of the female figure at the exact moment she is captured. Through his intense female portraits, Marco seeks to engage the viewer by creating a silent dialogue between subject and audience.
His works are striking, combining decorative elements with hyper-realistic use of color. He works with bold colors, applied with a spatula and finished with paint splatters that partially break down and soften the image, resulting in a layered and dynamic composition.
Marco Grassi’s works have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions, as well as at prestigious international art fairs such as Art Basel, SCOPE Basel, and the Moscow Art Fair. In 2011, he was selected for the opening of the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.
